I forget which season it was, but in one of the hundred times Pearson Hardman—or Pearson Specter Litt—was under attack, it was down to Harvey to save the day. Now, that may sound like every other day in the world of Suits, but this one was different. This time, Harvey saved the day with cash. Lots of cash.
Turns out he always keeps $25,000 stashed somewhere in his office. Probably hidden in one of his dad’s old records. And, surprise surprise, he uses the money to bribe a courier into giving the firm more time. With that extra time, he basically saves the world.

None of this applies to my life, and I’m guessing it doesn’t apply to yours either. But there is a lesson here. Is it a good idea to have some cash lying around? The answer feels like a yes to me.
I live a 99% cashless life. But some things are out of my control. My barber is one. My handyman is another. Some people simply prefer cash. Some businesses require it. And, once in a blue moon, the card machine doesn’t work.
So whatever the right amount is for you (mine is £50), consider putting it aside for the day you need it. Not for emergencies – just for real life.
